Minutes of Meeting 18 April 2011 at Stewart’s Melville College

Present: Eddie Thorn (chair), Mark Brown (vice-chair), Dave Halbert (Secretary), Alan Denham (Treasurer), Jack Burton, Margaret Richardson, Iain Hewitt, Irene Hamilton, Maureen Kane, Alasdair Watson, Cllr McIvor, Cllr Whyte, Elaine Lennon (Partnership Development Officer)
Apologies: Cllr McIvor, Cllr Hinds, Liam Keegan, John Young, Veronica Elias

Minutes of last meeting: proposed by Margaret Richardson and seconded by Iain Hewitt.

Announcements: Irene Hamilton offered resignation after 4 years on CC. Dave Halbert to step down as Secretary (but continues to run website and School Debate). Eddie Thorn (Chair) paid tribute to their contributions over the years. Maureen Kane will take up this office. Hustings on Thursday 28
April at 7.30 in Large Hall, St Columba’s Church - all main parties will be represented.

Treasurer's report: Balance £2253.99. Accounts for 2010-2011 prepared. No significant new planning applications. Planning permission for advertisement billboard at 2 Strachan Road refused.

Councillors’ Report: Cllr Whyte reported back on progress with Victoria Hospital; new building is on time and within budget. There will be staged transfer of services though some might go to other NHS sites. Awaiting clarification of intentions for existing Victoria Hospital

Secretary's Report: relevant emails forwarded
Dates; 10 May INP Clean, Green and Safe Group

Correspondence: venue still to be found for July meeting.

Matters Arising:
Scottish Power: Elaine Lennon will investigate concerns raised by Iain Hewitt regarding Scottish Power.
Potholes: Jack Burton raised concerns about potholes and obvious inadequacies of ‘hotbox’ filling in the area. Cllr Whyte will report back on CEC’s plans to resurface.
North Edinburgh News: Mark Brown chaired as Eddie Thorn (Chair) declared interest. NEN to close and Eddie Thorn, as a director, asked CC to apply for grant of £500 (if available) towards re-launch. Concerns by several CC’s regarding dated layout of publication, viability, poor distribution in
Craigleith/Blackhall area. Eddie Thorn stated intention to distribute NEN over 2 wards. Vote taken and support for application for grant was passed 5:4.
Sainsburys Section 75: Iain Hewitt reported that path completed at Groathill Ave linking Sainsburys with Cycle Path/Walkway but pedestrian crossing still to be completed.
