Craigleith and Blackhall Community Council – Minutes of meeting on 11 July 2011

Chair’s Report Veronica Elias resigned from Committee and her good work was acknowledged. Mark Brown, who is moving out of the area, will step down as Depute Chair. Mark was a founder member of the Committee and his contribution and hard work was praised. John Adams of Maidencraig Resident Association was approved as new committee member. Elaine Lennon would like more members to sit on INP sub-groups. Residents not on the Committee can also attend group meetings.
Broughton Fest, organised by Broughton High School, is on 24 September, however, Community Council will not participate or assist in funding.

Emails forwarded to committee members. Planning Dept posted signs around Blackhall Dip regarding imminent short-stay parking bays. Dates: Sat 30 July: Annual Fun Day, Drylaw Neighbourhood Centre Mon 29 Aug: 14.30 INP Clean, Green Safe meeting Thurs 8 Sept: 18.00 Inverleith Community Conference, Broughton High School. Councillor’¦s Report: Cllr Hinds reported that delay with Groathill Ave crossing was due to problems with contractor. Tree preservations order status at Victoria Hospital would be confirmed by Cllr Hinds. She also reported possible changes to plans for existing Victoria Hospital but thought Cllr Whyte would have more information. Treasurer and Planning Report: Current balance - 2064.99 Majority of applications were small scale alterations / additions to existing houses. We commented on small billboard proposed on gable wall at Seaforth Terrace. Worth noting is temporay banner at 2 Strachan Road attached to railings, site of recent refusal of permission for a large billboard. Matters Arising: Blackhall Signage: Committee agreed that next step was to decide on design of signage for Blackhall and its position within the Dip but actual name on sign is still not definitive. Cllr Hinds suggested incorporating a logo/emblem. Pamphlet Distribution: Most deliveries now complete. AOCB: Roads and Pavements: Eddie Thorn raised concerns about the danger of low branches on trees in Craigleith Rd. There was general concern about blocked drains in several places around the area. INP Environment Group: Eddie Thorn requested Committee to approve funding for 1. Foliage to be trimmed at Maidencraig Lane 2. Ornamental fencing to be erected at Maidencraig Court 3. Railing replacement at Blackhall Nursery. The Committee approved. Parking at Telford: Cllr Hinds also reported that Telford/Drylaw CC had concerns about parking at WGH. She would set up meeting for Telford/ Drylaw CC and CBCC to discuss the issue. EACC and Joint CC Meeting: Dave Halbert reported back to committee on recent meetings he attended.
